Back in 2005 Greenhouse Effect released a record called Columbus or Bust right around the same time that 1988 came out.  Because we wanted to try to get better distribution situation for the record we licensed it to a label called Raptivism records.  Boy was that a bad idea.  Basically, they didn’t do anything they were supposed to do and looking back we would’ve been better off releasing this album ourselves.

Columbus or Bust has been out of print for a very long time (mostly because we didnt want to risk them pursuing us legally) but as far as I know Raptivism isn’t even in business anymore, so we think its high time this record was released properly.  So, in January we will be rereleasing a delux version of the Columbus or Bust.  It will be available for the first time Tuesday January 26th on iTunes, and the delux 2CD version will ship from our site on the 26th.  We will also release the promo version on the 26th.

The delux version will include revised artwork, all instrumentals, as well as a 11×17 poster, sticker, and maybe even some other promo that’s not listed yet.  For now check out the below song to get a taste of what the album sounds like:

Had server problems last week that kind of took me out of the rhythm of blogging, but I’m back now. This week i will pick up where i left off. I figure i would start this week off with some music. Everybody has a youtube channel except me, so now I have one. I haven’t quite figured out what I’m gonna put on mine yet, but i figure posting one beat every week couldn’t hurt. This is a post I made on weightless.net last week with an updated status of my album. I figured I would repost it here for those interested:

Truthfully, my record not dropping yet is more a decision of mine than theirs. I had a release date that i decided i was a little too rushed to do everything I wanted to do, so i let it go. After that, I took a step back and we decided to just make the album as good as possible and not stress release dates.

but there have been some issues along the way:

1. the dude who did my artwork (and tons of artwork for me over the years) retired. this may not seem to have much impact since the art was done, but it could pose a real problem when you want to get adjustments made or when you want to adapt that design to fit other mediums like web, print, advertisements. so i had to get my artwork totally redone.

2. hard drive crash – everybody around me knows i had a major hd crash around march that had the lab closed for a couple months. i just got everything back up and running, and actually i think my setup is better now because everything is mobile, so i can do beats anywhere now, which is what i’ve always wanted to do but never quite could.

3. sample clearance issues – there’s a couple things on my album that rse is concerned about, and would like to pull off the album because of samples. obviously i want to keep the songs, but to do so i need to find a creative way to get rid of the samples in question w/o ruining the essence of the song. this is something i havent really had to deal with before because i was “under the radar” so to speak. on 1988 i was able to do whatever i wanted to do and i didn’t think twice about samples. however, there is a feeling that this record will get more exposure and because of that it will also become more of a target for lawsuits for uncleared samples. i kind of knew this going in so i kept the blatant samples to a minimum, but there are still some things that i need to be cautious about and fix. so between having certain things replayed and reevaluating the tracklisting i’m trying to resolve these issues.

4. the edit – i’m trying to cut the album down time wise and song wise. it is a very dense listen and i dont want to make it any more challenging of a listen than it needs to be. plus i’m a fan of short albums with little filler.

at any rate, its really in my court at this point, and my goal is to have all this stuff wrapped up soon…like within 2 weeks, especially since my lab is back up. i came back from soundset very motivated. i was honestly very shocked that so many people were asking me about new music and still responded to 1988 and Things Go Better, and it encouraged me to get back n the lab and fix all this shit asap. sometimes its good to me reminded that people enjoy what you do and want you to continue doing it.

Back in the day i was in a crew called the Iskabibbles. It consisted of illogic, Plead the Ph5th, and my crew Greenhouse Effect. In later years we would find out that there was an older rock band from Columbus with the same name. We did music at the time but it never really came out.

At any rate, this is an old Electronic Press Kit put together for The Iskabibbles (Greenhouse Effect, Illogic, & Plead the Ph5th) created from old performance clips of our various shows together around 2000. This one got dug up from VHS so enjoy. For those from Columbus, or those interested in seeing some footage from a classic time in columbus hip-hop, enjoy.

i had to tell this story…

so last night me and seance are at ladies 80s drinking beer, waiting to pass out some flyers for the new years show. we’re off in the cut standing right between the two bathrooms kickin it and this little ass dude walks up and just posts up next to us. dude was looking real serious. so we keep talking and clowning and dude is still there. dude is like “man, yall clowning over here!” but he still had that serious look in his face..real focused. at first i thought he might have thought we were in line for the bathroom, so i was like “we’re not in line for the bathroom” just so dude would know. and little dude is like “nah, i’m not going in the bathroom, i’m waiting on somebody to come out. i gotta handle some shit”. So i’m like “damn, you look real serious, is it about to go down?” and he’s like “yeah man, a muthafucka disrespected me and I’m about to handle that. hes in the bathroom, so i’m gonna wait for him to come out and see whats up.” so me and seance are like cool, we’re gonna post up here because this shit is about to get entertaining.

we ask little dude what happened and he said that big dude kind of pushed him aside and was like get out my way lil dude. he said he didnt appreciate it, so he was gonna confront him.Little dude was so focused and bout it and he couldn’t have weighed more than 125 pounds, max…and he was maybe 5’8 or so and didnt even look like the kind of dude who was on some scrappy shit.

so little dude goes back to waiting for another couple minutes, so you know the suspense is building on our end like whats about to go down, and then finally this BIG ASS DUDE walks out. This cat was like probably around 6 foot 2 and weighed at least 225 pounds. and soon as he walks out the bathroom, little dude rolled up to him and starts wispering some shit in his ear, talking to him real gangsterish. we cant hear what he’s saying to dude but you know something real is being said. i’m expecting the big dude to either fuck little dude up, or be on some leave me alone or i’ll fuck you up type shit, but what happens? BIG ASS DUDE BACKS DOWN AND WALKS AWAY.

So we ask little dude what happened and he’s like “dude said he didnt want no problems with me and just wanted to have a good time. then he apologized.” I was like “holy shit!”

I woke up today laughing about that shit. Little dude had the heart of a lion. That shit could’ve went real bad for him, but big dude saw that he was gonna be fighting this little cat to the death and didn’t want no part of that drama.
